Process
Submission
The submission of abstracts will be available online from August 22, 2011 to November 7, 2011. Abstracts sent by mail, e-mail or fax will not be accepted.
The submitter does not necessarily have to be the primary author. Upon submission, abstracts can be edited, deleted or simply reloaded. After the expiry of the deadline, abstracts can only be withdrawn in writing.
Please pay careful attention to the guidelines for abstract submission.
Review
All abstracts submitted by November 7, 2011 will be reviewed by a panel of reviewers.
Submitted abstracts may be considered for poster or oral presentation (the best 20 abstracts will be chosen for oral presentation).
Selection
Notifications of acceptance of abstracts (oral presentation, oral poster presentation or poster only presentation) will be e-mailed to the authors by December 7, 2011.
Please note that all abstracts will only be included in the final programme if the corresponding author has formally registered by December 14, 2011 and paid the registration fee. For guidelines for poster and oral presentations please refer to the guidelines for poster and oral presentation.
Late-breaking abstracts
Late-breaking abstracts can be submitted from November 8 to December 16, 2011. Please note that late-breaking abstract should contain novel data which was not yet available at the time of closure of the regular abstract submission. The late-breaking abstract deadline is not intended to be merely an extension of the regular submission deadline. Interim analysis of a prospective randomized clinical trial will be considered only if it is performed as planned in the original protocol and is statistically valid.
ECCO’s general guidelines for abstract submission apply to late-breaking abstracts.
All late-breaking abstracts will undergo formal peer-review evaluation by the Organising Committee and one abstract will be selected for oral presentation.
Embargo policy
All abstracts will be available on the congress website approx. 1 month prior to the congress. Information in abstracts accepted for the 7th Congress of ECCO will be under embargo from release until the start of the 7th Congress of ECCO.
Data from abstracts of oral presentations and posters accepted for the 7th Congress of ECCO are under media embargo until the date and time of their presentation as part of the official scientific sessions (Time zone CET).
Copyright to abstracts (both oral and poster) on the website resides with the respective authors. No reproduction, re-use or transcription for any commercial purpose or use of the content is permitted without the written permission of the authors. Requests for permission for re-use can be directed to the author via the

Prizes
ECCO encourages young investigators to submit their original work.

The 3 best posters will be selected by the Organising Committee 2012 awarded with a prize (certificate and free congress registration to the 8th Congress of ECCO) during the poster award ceremony on February 17, 2012, 13:15-13:30.
In addition, the top 5 abstracts with a Y-ECCO Member (below 35 years of age – paid up membership fee 2012 before the abstract submission deadline, November 7, 2011) as first author will receive a travel award of EUR 750.-- each.
